The Great Flood of 1916 was North Carolina's (and much of the Southeast's) worst natural disaster 100 years ago. Besides leading to thousands of landslides and causing extensive damage and loss of life, it came at a time when people were prepared for a myriad of challenges and had skills to protect themselves against most disasters.
