Elaine Orr's A Different Sun, is a fictional tale based on real, pre-Civil War missionaries. Main character Emma, and her missionary husband travel to West Africa in 1840, to convert the locals, though Emma also brings literacy and compassion. While Emma is there, her understanding of the native people grows as does her own questioning of her own faith.
